It does offer similar presets but I found Permute’s much easier to use. Unfortunately, HandBrake offers so much functionality that it may overwhelm you. I have used this for video conversions in the past. Perhaps the best-known free competitor for Permute is HandBrake. Permute includes iTunes integration that allows you to automatically add converted files into iTunes. Additional features include adjusting the volume of an audio file or an audio track and the ability to batch resize, rotate, and flip images and video. As video encoding can be a long process, you can now schedule to convert videos when you’re not using your computer. Dark mode is available for those so inclined. It offers easy-to-use drag-and-drop video conversions. Unfortunately, it has run its course and is no longer a viable option for file conversions. I have been able to do some simple video conversions over the years with this versatile app which came as free software with my Mac. It will easily convert your media files to various formats. This is when Permute comes to the rescue. Sometimes you need a specific format for your iPad or your DVD player won’t play that video.
